Why Namjai
Service built around the watch, not the schedule
A clear look at what we offer and why it matters — for the watch you wear every day, and for the one you have kept in a drawer for years.

What you get when you work with us
A working watchmaker, not a relay
The person who answers your enquiry is the same person who works on your watch. No handoffs, no coordination gaps, no miscommunication between front desk and workshop.
Assessment before commitment
We review every watch and share a written assessment before any paid work begins. You know exactly what is recommended and why before you decide anything.
Conservative approach to cosmetics
We do not polish, refinish, or alter the appearance of a watch without your agreement. Patina and character are preserved unless you specifically ask otherwise.
Swiss-grade materials throughout
Lubricants, cleaning solutions, and replacement materials are sourced from established Swiss and European suppliers. We do not use off-grade substitutes to reduce costs.
Timing machine results shared
Every movement is measured before and after service on a timing machine. You receive the readings as part of your service documentation — not just a verbal assurance.
Transparent, fixed pricing
Our service prices are published and held to. Any additional work or parts are discussed with you first — nothing is added without your agreement.
Professional expertise, applied to your watch
Mechanical watch servicing is a skilled trade. The movements that pass through our workshop range from simple three-hand automatics to complicated vintage pieces with unusual complications. Our head watchmaker has over fifteen years of hands-on experience with mechanical movements, and every watch we take on is assessed by someone who actually understands what is inside it.
We continue to develop our knowledge through ongoing study of horological literature and contact with the wider watchmaking community. Watchmaking does not stand still, and neither does our understanding of the movements we work on.
- Fifteen-plus years of movement servicing experience
- Deep familiarity with vintage and antique calibres
- Ongoing horological study and reference
- Specialised tools for rare or unusual movements
- Knowledge of Thai, Japanese, and Swiss mechanical movements
- Timing machine measurement in six positions
- Ultrasonic cleaning for movement parts
- Calibrated lubrication tools for correct application
- 48-hour minimum post-assembly observation
- Photographic documentation on arrival and completion
Equipment and process that match the work
The tools we use are chosen for the work, not for appearance. Our timing machine gives us objective data on a movement's performance. Our ultrasonic cleaner removes old lubricant from parts without manual scrubbing that could damage surfaces. Calibrated dispensers ensure lubricants are applied in the right quantity and in the right place.
After every service, the watch runs in our workshop for a minimum of 48 hours so we can observe it over time before it is handed back to you.
Communication that keeps you informed
We know that leaving a valued watch with someone is a matter of trust. We do not take that lightly. You receive a message when your watch arrives, when the assessment is complete, when work begins, and when it is ready for collection. If we find something unexpected mid-service, we contact you before continuing.
Our response time for enquiries is typically the same working day. For ongoing service updates, you will hear from the watchmaker directly.
- Same-day response to enquiries
- Direct communication from the watchmaker
- Notification at each stage of the service
- Written assessment before any paid work
- No obligation if you choose not to proceed
- Published prices, no hidden additions
- Honest recommendation if a lesser service is sufficient
- Parts discussed and approved before sourcing
- Service documentation included at no extra cost
- No charge for assessment if you choose not to proceed
Pricing that is straightforward and fair
Our service prices are published on this site and are not subject to last-minute additions. If a watch needs less than the full service you enquired about, we will tell you — and charge accordingly. If parts are required beyond the standard scope, we discuss and agree those costs with you before sourcing anything.
We do not charge for the initial written assessment. If, after reading it, you decide not to proceed, you are welcome to collect your watch with no obligation.
How We Compare
Our approach vs. the typical alternative
We are not the right choice for every situation — but for watches that matter, here is how a considered workshop differs from a high-volume service centre.
| Aspect | High-volume service centre | Namjai |
|---|---|---|
| Who handles your watch | Variable technician | Named watchmaker throughout |
| Pre-work assessment | ||
| Timing results shared with owner | ||
| Cosmetic changes agreed first | ||
| Post-assembly observation period | Varies | Minimum 48 hours |
| Written service documentation | ||
| No-obligation assessment |
What Makes Us Different
Things we do that others often don't
Arrival photography
Every watch is photographed when it arrives — case, dial, caseback, and any notable marks. This creates a clear record that protects both of us.
Service history document
You receive a written summary of everything done — parts replaced, lubricants applied, timing results. This adds to the watch's documented history and is useful for resale.
Restoration dialogue for significant pieces
For older or collectable watches, we walk through every decision with you before it is made. You choose what to preserve and what to address.
Courier coordination
We help customers who cannot visit in person to send and receive their watches safely. We advise on packaging and, if preferred, arrange the return courier ourselves.
