My grandfather's Seiko had been sitting in a drawer for about twelve years. I wasn't sure it could be brought back to life, honestly. Chaiwat sent me a written note explaining what he found inside — nothing alarming, just years of dried lubricant — and what the full service would involve. Three weeks later it was running within a few seconds a day. He included the timing printout, which was a nice touch.

I sent my dress watch by courier from Chiang Mai — the team were helpful with packaging advice beforehand. The Gentle Service was exactly what I needed; I just wanted to know the watch was running properly before wearing it regularly again. Communication was good throughout, although the turnaround was slightly longer than quoted. The watch feels noticeably smoother now.

The Considered Restoration was exactly what I hoped it would be. My mother's Longines from the 1960s had a few marks on the case I was unsure about — Chaiwat explained the options clearly and said he would do nothing I hadn't agreed to. He kept everything original, cleaned the movement fully, and returned it running well. The documentation they provide is thoughtful.

I came in knowing very little about watch servicing. Rather than pushing me toward the most expensive option, Chaiwat suggested the Gentle Check first, saying it would give us both a clearer picture. He was right — the watch just needed a good clean and fresh oil. I appreciated that he explained everything in plain language rather than talking over my head.

Finding a trustworthy independent watchmaker in Bangkok isn't easy. Namjai came recommended by someone in a collector group, and I've now sent three watches over two years. Each time the communication has been clear, the work has been careful, and the watches have come back running better than when I left them. The service records are a welcome bonus for resale purposes.

I was a little nervous about sending a watch by post, but they walked me through how to pack it and confirmed receipt the same day it arrived. The restoration took just over six weeks, which was within the range they mentioned. The watch looks as it should — not over-restored, still has its character. Happy to use them again.

A few longer journeys
The Situation
A Seiko 5 that hadn't run in eight years
A Bangkok customer brought in a Seiko 5 automatic that had been sitting since a family move. The crown felt stiff, the caseback showed a light green deposit, and the watch would not wind in either direction. The owner was unsure whether repair was worthwhile given the watch's modest market value.
What We Did
Full movement service and crown work
After the initial assessment, we recommended the Full Movement Service. The movement was fully disassembled; the keyless works were the source of the winding difficulty — a worn detent spring that was replaced. The caseback deposit was removed carefully. The owner was shown the assessment before any work proceeded and chose to go ahead. Three weeks total.
The Outcome
Running well within factory spec
The watch returned running at +8 seconds per day in the crown-up position and +4 in the dial-up position — well within Seiko's specification for this calibre. The owner noted it felt completely different on the wrist. "I thought it might not be worth fixing. It was."

The Situation
A 1960s Longines inherited from a grandmother
A collectable manual-wind Longines with a champagne dial, passed down through a family, arrived with a broken mainspring and a dial that had developed small lift marks near one of the subdial cutouts. The owner was concerned about any cosmetic intervention changing the watch's character.
What We Did
Considered Restoration with dial stabilisation
The cosmetic choices were discussed at length before work began. The owner asked that the dial be stabilised where it was lifting but left otherwise untouched. We replaced the mainspring with an appropriate period-correct specification, serviced the entire movement, cleaned the case lightly, and returned the dial to the owner's precise brief. Six weeks from receipt to return.
The Outcome
Original character preserved; running reliably
The lift marks were stabilised and stopped progressing. The watch runs at −3 seconds per day — appropriate for its age and calibre. The owner received full photographic documentation of the work. "It looks exactly as it should. Nothing taken away."
